About this event

The Underline is Miami’s 10-mile linear infrastructure reuse project being built along the Miami Metrorail system. Tour The Underline's 0.5 mile first phase in the heart of Miami's most densely populated neighborhood, Brickell, and be immersed in the native plantings, butterflies, bike trail, walking trails, urban gym, and much more. The Brickell Backyard offers free wifi for all and has launched almost 2 dozen local businesses that are seizing the open-air economy and making their mark on Miami! Led by The Underline's visionary founder, Meg Daly, you'll hear about the trail's beginnings, the herculean effort to raise $140 million for construction, and the ongoing challenge of supporting operations and maintenance. You'll also hear about the construction of Phase 2. Finally, learn about the organization's efforts to help stem displacement in Miami's hot real estate market.

Tour participants will meet on the 3rd floor of the AKA Brickell (the symposium venue) for check-in and a quick welcome. Participants will walk together from the hotel to The Underline. This will be followed by a walking tour of Brickell Backyard, The Underline’s first phase, with The Underline’s senior staff. The team will also highlight the plans and status of the next phases of The Underline. Tour guides will walk with participants back to the AKA Brickell at the conclusion of the tour.

Activity Level: Light to moderate — Participants can expect to walk approximately one mile.
